Brussels, dance!

1 CITY / 2 MONTHS / 16 VENUES
/ SHOWS, TALKS & PERFORMANCES / 1 EDUCATIONAL PACKAGE / 1 COLLECTION OF VIDEO PORTRAITS

In the months of May and June, the floor is given over to Brussels’ choreographic artists!

Brussels, dance! is back this year showcasing contemporary choreographic creation in Brussels. Against the backdrop of the disruptions we have all had to face, for this sixth edition some fifteen institutional and alternative cultural venues — Le 140, La Balsamine, La Bellone, BOZAR, Les Brigittines, Charleroi danse/La Raffinerie, Contredance, Garage29, Les Halles de Schaerbeek, KVS, Le Jacques Franck, Kaaitheater, Théâtre Marni, Le Senghor, Théâtre Les Tanneurs and Théâtre Varia — are swapping and pooling their dance programmes scheduled for May and June 2021 under the label Brussels, dance! to raise the profile of dance artists as much as possible today, and highlight the diversity and richness of their creations that need our support more than ever.

If the pandemic and associated health measures allow it, spectators will be welcomed inside venues as well as outside, observing the rules in force for receiving audiences. Nevertheless, this year, as a way of dealing with the uncertainties and possible restrictions, Brussels, dance! has produced video portraits, In the Artists’ Words, to hear what choreographers living in Brussels have to say as they offer their visions and ideas about what the world might be like afterwards. We will add to this collection every year.

This new edition also marks the launch of an Educational Package on the history of contemporary dance in Belgium (1930-2021) designed for cultural mediators. This tool comes in the form of a video file comprising excerpts from twenty pieces of Belgian contemporary dance, an illustrated booklet and a specific training guide both in French and Dutch. It is available to cultural professionals, upon request, via the link at the bottom of the page.
