La Chaleur

After training at the CNDC in Angers, Madeleine Fournier (Paris, 1987) rapidly started collaborating with visual artists and choreographers. She has been carrying out her own research and collaborating with Jonas Chéreau since 2008, creating several pieces together. In 2018 the dancer and choreographer embarked on a new period in her work with the highly acclaimed solo Labourer. Inspired by The Life of Plants in which Emanuele Coccia develops the idea that “our bodies cross through, and are crossed through by, the bodies of others”, her latest creation is interested in the collective. References in La Chaleur also venture into the repertoire of opera and baroque music – Purcell in particular – to ask questions about the original chorus (“before dance and music were separated”), mythology and muses. All the elements together develop into “a form that is both spectacular and intimate, building a bridge between opera and experimental dance, zigzagging between abstraction and fiction”.
